Coexist 2021
This work was born in the quiet rupture of arrival—when I first came to the UK during the pandemic, isolated between the unknown outside and the unwritten inside. I found myself constantly observing others, reflecting their gestures, their manner of speech, the way they move in public spaces—not out of imitation alone, but as a search for belonging.
Through visual layering, mimicry, and repetition, the piece maps the tension between self and other. I borrow and echo the external forms of those around me-accents, style, posture—not to erase my origins, but to test their borders. In doing so, I confront what happens when identity becomes both performance and refuge.
The work' s images, sounds, and textures are thus fragments of adaptation: the mask of assimilation, the reflection of alienation. It is not simply about fitting in--but about transforming the mirror, so that in seeing others, I also see myself; perhaps for the first time, wholly and without apology.
